Seoul City Conducts Comprehensive Bicycle Road Inspection for Monsoon Season... 16 Areas Including Hangang and Yeouido Until the 23rd
Checking Vulnerable Facilities with Safety Guardians Composed of Civil Bicycle Groups
Damaged Parts Repaired and Immediately Addressed, Disconnected Sections Reflected in Bicycle Road Construction Plans
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government is taking proactive measures to create a safe cycling environment in preparation for flood and wind disasters. They plan to inspect bicycle roads and facilities along vulnerable sections such as the Han River and tributaries, which may be susceptible to flooding caused by heavy rain, and promptly carry out repairs to prevent safety accidents during the rainy season.
On the 13th, Seoul announced that, together with the Safety Keeper Group, it will conduct a comprehensive inspection from today until the 23rd on bicycle roads and facilities in 16 areas, including the Han River, Jungnangcheon tributary, and Yeouido, where the risk of safety accidents is considered high during floods and similar emergencies, to prevent bicycle accidents and create a safe cycling environment.
The Seoul Bicycle Safety Keeper Group has actively collaborated with the city by conducting infrastructure inspections of bicycle roads twice during the thaw period in the first half of this year, discovering defects in major bicycle roads, facility damages, and disconnected sections of bicycle roads in key areas of Seoul, thereby striving to establish a safe environment for bicycle use.
Through this safety inspection, Seoul plans to collaborate with relevant agencies such as autonomous districts to review repairs, replacements, and maintenance based on the severity and importance of the identified issues. Furthermore, for disconnected sections of bicycle roads, the city intends to incorporate connection segments into the Seoul bicycle road construction plan to complete seamless bicycle roads.
Meanwhile, Seoul will also consider budget allocation in the second half of the year for the bicycle road safety facility expansion project to support additional costs required by autonomous districts, road business offices, and other jurisdictional agencies for restoring bicycle road infrastructure.
