Former Giyoungok Gwangju FC Director Sent to Prosecution for Violation of Farmland Act
Mr. Ki Sung-yong Denies Allegations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The police have acknowledged charges against former Gwangju FC director Ki Young-ok for purchasing farmland using a fraudulent agricultural management plan.
However, it was deemed difficult to recognize the farmland law violation charges against Ki Seong-yong, the son of former director Ki and a Seoul FC soccer player.
On the 11th, the Anti-Corruption Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced that they had sent former director Ki, who was booked on charges including violation of the Farmland Act, forgery of private documents, and illegal land alteration, to the prosecution.
Additionally, three officials from the Seo-gu Office in Gwangju were also sent to the prosecution on charges including issuing farmland acquisition qualification certificates to the tenant and the Ki father and son without conducting actual investigations.
The Ki family has been under investigation for allegedly falsifying agricultural management plans without any intention of farming between 2015 and 2016 and purchasing several plots near the private park development site in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu.
Among these, the charge of violating the Farmland Act was applied to approximately 7,700㎡ purchased under Ki Seong-yong’s name in 2016.
The 3,008㎡ land purchased under Ki Young-ok’s name in 2015 was processed as ‘no prosecution’ due to the statute of limitations (5 years) having passed.
It is reported that former director Ki submitted a false plan stating that he intended to cultivate ‘gat’ in the area, obtained farmland acquisition qualification certificates based on this, and used them to purchase the land.
Regarding this, Ki Seong-yong has claimed, “I only sent money because my father said it was necessary for building a soccer center.”
