Shin Hanul Unit 1 Operation License Fails... Nuclear Safety and Security Commission "To Reconsider Later"
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission (NSSC) first submitted the operating license agenda for Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 but did not reach a conclusion and decided to discuss it again later.
On the 11th, the NSSC submitted the operating license agenda for Shin Hanul Unit 1 at the 140th meeting and decided after discussion.
Shin Hanul Unit 1 completed construction in April last year and only awaits NSSC operating approval. The issues are the safety controversy over the 'Passive Autocatalytic Recombiners (PAR)' installed in Shin Hanul Unit 1 and the risk of aircraft accidents. Due to ongoing safety concerns, the NSSC has received reports 12 times since starting the review of Shin Hanul Unit 1 in November last year, which is unusual. On this day, although the NSSC submitted the agenda after 7 months, it was the first review meeting, and opinions among the commissioners were divided, so as initially expected, no conclusion was reached.
The NSSC plans to resubmit the operating license agenda for Shin Hanul Unit 1 in the future.
