Samsung Electronics to Unveil New Galaxy Watch OS Online at MWC
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics will showcase the OS (operating system) to be applied to the next Galaxy Watch at the world's largest mobile exhibition, 'World Mobile Congress (MWC) 2021,' held at the end of this month.
According to the GSMA, the organizer of MWC, Samsung Electronics will hold a program online on the opening day of MWC, the 28th of this month, under the theme of 'Galaxy Ecosystem/New Watch Experience/Mobile Experience.'
Samsung Electronics explained in the session introduction on the MWC homepage, "We are reimagining smartwatches in a way that provides new opportunities for developers and consumers." Although specific details were not disclosed, foreign media and industry sources expect Samsung to introduce the OS that will be included in the Galaxy Watch4, scheduled for release this fall.
Earlier, Google announced at last month's annual developer conference that it would build a unified smartwatch operating system by combining Google's 'Wear OS' and Samsung's Tizen. Google and Samsung explained that the new OS will offer better responsiveness and longer battery life, and that Google apps and services such as Google Maps and YouTube will be available on the Galaxy Watch in the future.
