Hampyeong-gun Develops Shine Muscat Export Complex... First Export Initiative in Jeonnam Province
Export Cultivation Area 8ha... Expected 40t Export Around Late September
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Hampyeong County has initiated efforts to export Shine Muscat grapes, which have been developed as a region-specific specialty crop since 2018.
On the 9th, Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced that it will establish a 8-hectare Shine Muscat export complex to prevent domestic oversupply and secure a stable distribution network.
This scale corresponds to about 60% of the county’s Shine Muscat cultivation area (14 hectares), with 22 local farms deciding to participate in Shine Muscat export cultivation.
Accordingly, last month the county completed the registration of the integrated organization “Hampyeong Kkotmurut Export Grape Agricultural Cooperative Corporation (CEO Kim Yong-o),” which will serve as the export channel, and conducted preliminary training to minimize issues arising during export.
In two sessions held last month and on the 8th, the county invited Hwang Ui-chang, chairman of the Korea Grape Export Association Co., Ltd., to conduct on-site training covering standardized grape production according to export standards, pest and disease control, and grape thinning techniques.
The county expects about 40 tons of Shine Muscat to be exported for the first time around mid-September and plans to continue cultivation training to produce high-quality Shine Muscat grapes.

Na Jae-hyeok, head of the Agricultural Technology Center’s Technology Extension Division, said, “Shine Muscat is currently cultivated on 3,862 hectares nationwide, and the cultivation area is rapidly increasing every year, so it is essential to develop export channels and diversify distribution to prepare for oversupply.” He added, “We expect Hampyeong County to become the leading grape exporter in Jeollanam-do, preventing oversupply and helping stabilize prices.”
