According to the Busan Nambu Police Station on the 9th, at around 6:26 a.m., a taxi driver reported that passenger A was causing a disturbance in front of a restaurant in Nam-gu, Busan.
While the taxi driver was reporting to the police, A stole the taxi and fled. A drove about 1 km before crashing into a pier near the entrance of Gwangandaegyo Bridge. After driving another 200 meters, A stopped the taxi in the first lane in the middle of the road and fell asleep.
The police who arrived blocked the taxi from front and rear with a patrol car around 6:42 a.m. and arrested A.
A is a soldier belonging to an aviation squadron in Jeonbuk and was reportedly on leave.
Investigations revealed that the intoxicated A caused a disturbance inside the vehicle, including damaging the mobile phone used for the car navigation system while riding the taxi.
The police arrested A on the spot on charges of drunk driving and theft, and after the initial investigation, plan to hand the case over to the military unit.
