POSCO Chemical Showcases Battery Value Chain from Anode and Cathode Materials to EV Steel Sheets...
Participation in 'InterBattery 2021'... Booth Size Expanded 2.5 Times This Year
Showcasing Material Competitiveness... Introducing Raw Materials, Materials, and EV Steel Sheets
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] POSCO Chemical is participating in Korea's largest secondary battery exhibition to showcase its battery materials, including cathode and anode materials, the value chain from raw materials to material production, next-generation research and development (R&D) roadmap, and the group's eco-friendly mobility integrated brand, 'e Autopos.'
POSCO Chemical will participate in 'InterBattery 2021,' held from the 9th to the 11th at COEX in Seoul. This year, the company has organized various exhibition zones and expanded its booth area 2.5 times from 89.1㎡ last year to 222.75㎡ this year.
At this exhibition, POSCO Chemical conveys the message that "materials are the core that determine battery capacity, lifespan, and charging speed." It emphasizes high-capacity high-nickel NCM·NCMA cathode materials to extend electric vehicle driving range, as well as natural graphite, artificial graphite, and low-expansion anode materials that help improve battery lifespan and charging speed.
In particular, POSCO Chemical reveals the development status of next-generation battery cathode and anode materials through its R&D roadmap. For cathode materials, POSCO Chemical is developing technologies to increase nickel content to extend electric vehicle driving range and Co-Free cathode materials. It is also advancing the development of a high-nickel cathode material platform technology for rapid mass production tailored to various electric vehicle specifications, high-capacity silicon anode materials, and lithium metal anode materials for all-solid-state batteries.
At the center of the exhibition hall, a model of an eco-friendly vehicle equipped with POSCO Group's eco-friendly vehicle integrated brand e Autopos products is also displayed. e Autopos is a brand launched by POSCO Group to provide comprehensive solutions and package marketing for eco-friendly mobility by integrating products such as automotive steel sheets for body and chassis, drive motors, metal separators for hydrogen fuel cells, battery materials, and battery pack steel.
Especially, POSCO Chemical introduces the battery material value chain and raw material competitiveness established at the group level at this exhibition. POSCO plans to produce lithium, a key raw material for cathode materials, at salt lakes in Argentina and the Gwangyang Yulchon industrial complex. Nickel, a material that plays a decisive role in battery capacity, was stably secured through the acquisition of shares in Ravensthorpe, Australia, last May. POSCO aims to establish a self-supply system of 220,000 tons of lithium and 100,000 tons of nickel by 2030.
POSCO Chemical plans to further focus its capabilities to secure differentiated competitive advantages in the secondary battery materials business amid the acceleration of global mobility growth. Through this, it aims to achieve a 20% global market share and annual sales of 23 trillion KRW by 2030, driving the future growth of POSCO Group.
