S-Oil, Natural Monument Guardians Launch Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] S-OIL held the 2021 Endangered Natural Monument Guardians Campaign Launch Ceremony on the 9th in celebration of World Environment Day.
The company donated 210 million won to environmental organizations including the Korea Otter Protection Association, Korea Freshwater Fish Conservation Association, Natural Monument Insect Research Institute, Korea Bird Protection Association, and Korea Crane Protection Association. The funds will be used for protecting endangered natural monuments such as otters and cranes, education for children from low-income families, and volunteer activities by employees.

Previously, in 2008, the company was the first among corporations to sign an agreement with the Cultural Heritage Administration to become guardians of natural monuments. The natural monument guardian activities support research and protection efforts by specialized conservation organizations and include university student guardian groups and natural monument classes for children from low-income families. So far, over 4,900 employees and their families have participated in volunteer activities, and more than 4,500 children have attended ecological education camps.
