A Korean Embassy to Be Established in Slovenia.
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho]The former Yugoslav federation country Slovenia is opening an embassy in Korea.
On the 8th, An?e Logar, Slovenian Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is visiting Korea, requested cooperation regarding the opening of the embassy to Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong at the Korea-Slovenia Foreign Ministers' Meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Seoul.
Our government has approved Slovenia's establishment of a diplomatic mission, which is expected to open as early as this year. Currently, Slovenia has diplomatic missions in only three Asian countries: China, Japan, and India. Korea also does not have an embassy in Slovenia, and the embassy in Austria is concurrently accredited.
The two ministers plan to discuss the development of bilateral relations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties next year, cooperation on the international stage, and the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the region. They also plan to exchange views on strengthening cooperation between Korea and the EU, taking advantage of Slovenia's rotating presidency of the European Union (EU) in the second half of this year.
Minister Logar said, "Korea is the fourth most important regional market for Slovenia, and we expect to strengthen cooperation," adding, "One of the reasons for my visit is to open an embassy in Seoul, and I expect Korea's related cooperation."
