SK Inno Leads Market with Safe, Fast-Charging, Long-Range Batteries
SK Innovation Participates in InterBattery... Emphasizes Broad Partnerships Based on Differentiated Technology
Showcases Electrification Partnerships with Global Companies like Hyundai, Kia, and Ford
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] SK Innovation is participating in the largest domestic battery industry exhibition to showcase differentiated battery technologies under the themes of Safer than EVer, Faster than EVer, and Longer than EVer.
SK Innovation announced on the 8th that it will participate in 'Inter Battery,' the largest domestic battery industry exhibition held for three days from the 9th to the 11th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
SK Innovation has set up a 360㎡ booth, 1.6 times larger than last year. Various global finished vehicles equipped with SK Innovation batteries are displayed at the booth entrance. On the front right side of the booth, Hyundai Motor's strategic model Ioniq 5 is exhibited. This vehicle is equipped with the NCM8 battery, which applies the industry's highest nickel content among high-nickel batteries. This means the nickel content is about 80%. It is considered a battery that is difficult to manufacture without technological expertise in safety as performance increases. The driving range of this vehicle reaches approximately 429 km, and it can be charged up to 80% in just 18 minutes during fast charging.
In the center front of the booth, Ford's F-150 vehicle is displayed. As Ford's flagship model and a representative American pickup truck that valued the power and durability of internal combustion engines, the symbolism of converting it into an electric vehicle equipped with SK Innovation's battery is significant. SK Innovation supplies the 'NCM9,' considered the most powerful lithium-ion battery currently available.
The NCM9 battery increases the nickel content, the mineral that most affects battery driving range, to about 90%. SK Innovation completes this battery with its unique safety technology and will supply it to Ford starting next year.

At the 'Safety' explanation zone within the booth, SK Innovation emphasizes that no fire incidents have occurred during the delivery of 270 million battery cells to date. The secret lies in the separator manufactured by its subsidiary SKIET using proprietary technology with a thickness of 5 micrometers, which is 1/25th the thickness of a human hair, and the 'Z-folding' technique used in the battery manufacturing process. In addition, it introduces rapid charging technology capable of charging batteries in 15 minutes, next-generation cathode and anode materials related to long-distance driving performance, and module technology that can maximize internal battery space efficiency.
