Guro-gu Establishes 'Smart Alimi' to Ensure Traffic Safety in Front of Schools
Ojeong Elementary and Sindorim Middle Schools Recently Completed Installation... A Total of 17 Locations in the Area Focused on School Zones... Installed in Hazardous Areas Such as Intersections with Limited Visibility, Slopes, and Right-Turn Vehicle Entry Zones
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) is strengthening child pedestrian safety by installing ‘Smart Alimi’ in traffic blind spots near schools.
Guro-gu stated on the 8th, “We are steadily carrying out the ‘Smart Alimi’ project using advanced technology, focusing on school zones with heavy vehicle traffic and many pedestrians,” adding, “Including the recently completed installations at Ojeong Elementary School and Sindorim Middle School, a total of 17 locations currently operate Smart Alimi.”
‘Smart Alimi’ is a facility that prevents traffic accidents in areas with traffic safety risks such as crosswalks without traffic lights and traffic blind spots at intersections.
The ‘Smart Intersection Alimi’ displays CCTV footage installed at intersections with blind spots on panels to inform drivers and pedestrians on the opposite side who cannot see approaching vehicles.
The newly installed location is the intersection near Ojeong Elementary School (Gyeongin-ro 2-gil 10), where vehicle traffic is heavy but visibility is poor.
Previously, Guro-gu installed intersection Alimi devices near Gaewoong Elementary School, Yeongseo Elementary School, and Sarang Kindergarten last year; near Guil Elementary School, Oryu South Elementary School, Dongguro Elementary School, and Deokui Elementary School in 2019; and near Gocheok Middle School and Guil Middle School in 2018.
Additionally, Guro-gu installed a roundabout Alimi at Oryu Elementary School, where visibility is obstructed by tall buildings and walls, and a slope blind spot Alimi at Yeongil Elementary School, which has a slope, last year.
They also established a ‘Smart Right Turn Alimi’ to prevent accidents caused by right turns at crosswalks. It alerts pedestrians of approaching vehicles through LED signs and voice announcements, and displays real-time driving speeds on a panel to encourage drivers to maintain a steady speed.
The newly installed area is Sindorim Middle School (Gyeongin-ro 63-gil 74). Last year, installations were made near Mirae Elementary School, Gosan Elementary School, and Segok Elementary School, and in 2019 at the three-way intersection near Gyeongin-ro 59-gil 7.
Also, Sindorim Elementary School (Sindorim-dong 316-6) operates a ‘Smart Crosswalk Safety Guidance System.’ If a driver speeds or violates the stop line, the vehicle’s image is displayed on an electronic billboard to encourage compliance, and if a pedestrian jaywalks, a warning voice is broadcast.
