Gwangyang Mangdeokpogu Marine Pedestrian Bridge Naming Contest
Naming Contest for Two Marine Pedestrian Bridges Connecting Mangdeok Port, Baealdo, and Neighborhood Park
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced on the 7th that it is about to fully open two marine pedestrian bridges connecting Mangdeok Port~Baealdo~Baealdo Neighborhood Park and will start branding through a naming contest.
As part of the project to develop the tourist attraction at the end point of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range and Mangdeok Port of the Seomjin River, the city aims to build consensus and promote tourism by holding a naming contest for the two marine pedestrian bridges under construction.
The city plans to select and name a unique name that is easy to pronounce and remember, reflecting the spatial and cultural characteristics of the contest sites while embodying the meaning and symbolism of the marine pedestrian bridges.
The contest period is until June 16, and anyone who is a citizen of the Republic of Korea can apply. Applications along with the consent form for personal information can be submitted through the Gwangyang City website (Citizen Participation/Events) or sent by mail or email (jj4@korea.kr).
By June 18, the city will conduct an internal review to select about five names in the first round, followed by a citizen preference survey and a final review by the judging committee to select the official name.
The evaluation will be based on four criteria: symbolism, originality, communicability, and relevance. The final score will be calculated by combining the preference survey (30%) and the judging results (70%), and the highest scoring name will be selected. A tourism souvenir worth 50,000 KRW will be awarded for the selected name, and those who pass the first round will be contacted individually.
Park Soon-gi, Director of Tourism, said, “We hope many original names that well capture the symbolism of the two marine pedestrian bridges connected to Baealdo will be submitted.”
