With Party Members: "To Boost Primary Excitement, September Schedule Should Be Postponed... No Need to Be Earlier Than the Opposition"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The Democratic Party's registered members have urged to postpone the presidential primary election scheduled for September.
On the 4th, in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, those identifying themselves as Democratic Party registered members held a press conference and claimed, "The success of the Democratic Party's presidential primary is the key to winning the presidential election."
They stated, "The Democratic Party must definitely achieve regime re-creation in the next presidential election," adding, "If it fails, it will have to endure a time of hardship in the darkness of history, similar to the lost decade. The reforms made so far will be lost, and future reform tasks will become futile."
They emphasized that to ensure 'primary election success' and 'self-strengthening,' the presidential primary scheduled for September should not be pushed forward.
They pointed out, "In the April 7 by-election, the Democratic Party's primary was held nearly 20 days earlier than the People Power Party's, exposing the Democratic Party's election strategy as it was," and added, "The People Power Party experienced a primary election boom with close contests such as 'Oh Se-hoon vs. Na Kyung-won' and 'Oh Se-hoon vs. Ahn Cheol-soo.' The result was a crushing defeat."
They continued, "There is a high possibility that the nightmare of the previous by-election will be repeated when former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl joins the People Power Party and triggers a primary election boom," emphasizing, "We urge the postponement of the primary schedule for the sake of primary election success and self-strengthening."
They also said, "Even if it cannot be held later than the People Power Party's, there is no need to hold it quickly," adding, "Many variables will occur during the 60-day period, so there is no need to stick to a schedule where the Democratic Party's presidential candidate is verified first."
