eBay Korea held a disability book exhibition with the Milal Welfare Foundation until the 20th of last month in observance of the Day for the Elimination of Disability Discrimination. The exhibition introduced books recommended by four disability parents and experts to help understand disabilities and illnesses, and donations were made equivalent to the sales volume on Gmarket and Auction during the campaign period. The books were prepared through eBay Korea’s member-participation social contribution funds, Sponsorship Shopping and Sharing Shopping.
The event featured a total of 32 books, including 13 books related to disabilities and illnesses such as autism, epilepsy, schizophrenia, and mental disorders, 11 essays, and 8 disability-related fairy tales and picture books. Especially in this book exhibition, many books sharing various developmental disability information such as education, school life, communication, and family support for children with developmental disabilities were introduced, including the new book "Seonmul" co-written by special education teachers and parents of children with disabilities.
The donated books will be delivered to five domestic welfare centers for the disabled and the library within the Pagraum Disability Welfare Center in Cebu, Philippines, operated by the Milal Welfare Foundation. The Pagraum Center promotes welfare for the disabled, improves nutrition for impoverished children, and supports local children’s education. The donation will be used to procure and deliver English books locally.
A representative of the Milal Welfare Foundation said, "People with developmental disabilities need a lot of information at every stage of life, and we are grateful to eBay Korea for introducing quality books for this purpose and participating in sharing." They added, "The donated books will serve as a good guide for families who suffer lifelong caregiving pain at welfare centers and other places frequently visited by people with disabilities."
