[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Kim Kyung-ho) is conducting the ‘2021 Online Seoul Food Culture Citizen School’ to establish a proper food culture among Seoul citizens.
Since being designated as the 29th Food Culture Education Institution by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2013, the corporation has operated the Seoul Food Culture Citizen School annually to promote a healthy food culture among Seoul citizens, providing various ‘customized food culture programs’ through this initiative.
This year, especially to prevent COVID-19 and comply with government quarantine guidelines, the existing face-to-face education method has been converted to non-face-to-face and is conducted online. Videos filmed at the cooking studio on the 4th floor of the Garak Mall office building, the education venue for the Seoul Food Culture Citizen School, are provided through the corporation’s YouTube channel.
Starting with the ‘Cucumber Kkakdugi’ episode on May 26, a kimchi class by Master Lee Ha-yeon (Korea Food Master No. 58) focusing on summer kimchi will be held for four weeks. The episodes ‘Young Radish Water Kimchi’ in the first week of June, ‘Young Radish Kimchi’ in the second week of June, and ‘Chive Kimchi’ in the third week of June will be provided sequentially.

Following the kimchi class, the corporation is preparing various programs such as a seasonal Korean food class by Professor Han Hye-young of Chungbuk Provincial University in July, and medicinal cuisine by Go Eun-jung, CEO of ‘Jirisan Delicious Kitchen’ in August. They expressed hope that, due to the spatial freedom of the online format, more people will be able to participate together.
