LG Electronics Automotive Subsidiary ZKW Filed 57 Autonomous Driving Patents Last Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] ZKW, an Austrian subsidiary of LG Electronics specializing in automotive lamps, has filed a large number of patents related to autonomous driving in Europe.
ZKW announced on the 2nd that it filed 57 innovative technology patents internationally last year, ranking 4th among Austrian companies in terms of patents. Of these, 50 were filed in Europe and 7 in China.
Most of the patents ZKW filed last year are related to autonomous driving technology and sensors. The company explained that a representative solution includes cleaning sensors using high-frequency vibrations to secure optimal visibility for camera sensors at night. This year, ZKW is focusing on strengthening its competitiveness in the automotive electronics business by establishing a new research center and developing future vehicle research and collaborative robots.

According to industry sources, as of early this year, ZKW's order backlog is at an all-time high, with production volume secured for the next three years. Based on this, the company aims for record-high sales next year. As of the end of last year, LG Electronics' automotive electronics business had a total order backlog of approximately 60 trillion KRW, with ZKW accounting for more than 20% of that.
