Gwangju City Councilor Park Mijeong Receives 'Governance Local Politics Award'
Positive Feedback on the Operation of the 'Min-Gwan-Jeong Council'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Park Mijeong, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan Council, won the grand prize in the community capacity building category at the ‘2021 3rd Governance Local Politics Awards’.
According to the Gwangju City Council on the 2nd, the ‘2021 Governance Local Politics Awards’ is an event established to discover, nurture, and spread successful cases of autonomous decentralization through governance based on participation and partnership, aiming to create a national supportive atmosphere for competent local politicians and to raise awareness of local politics.
Hosted by the Governance Center and organized by the Governance Local Politics Awards Competition Organizing Committee, with sponsorship from the Presidential Commission on Local Autonomy and the Hankook Ilbo, awards are given to local government heads and local council members with outstanding achievements in each category.
The Governance Center conducted a competition in seven categories targeting local governments and local council members nationwide, including expanding residents’ convenience, improving administrative efficiency, enhancing community capacity, strengthening decentralized autonomy, increasing regional vitality, pioneering the future, and responding to COVID-19.
Councilor Park applied in the community capacity building category with the theme ‘Case of collaboration among private, public, political, and academic sectors for preventing reckless development of Mudeungsan and sharing Shinyang Park Hotel.’
She received praise for setting a good precedent in understanding and effectiveness of governance by forming and operating a practical governance ‘Private-Public-Political Council.’
