Daegu City to Create 'Historical and Cultural Plaza' at Sincheon Daebonggyo Riverside... 2 Billion Won Invested, Completion by End of Next Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Daegu City announced on the 2nd that it is promoting the 'Sincheon History and Culture Square Development Project' centered on the left bank riverside upstream of Daebonggyo Bridge, aiming to provide healing, rest, and exchange spaces for citizens exhausted by COVID-19.
The city of Daegu explained that the project aims to discover the history and cultural resources hidden within Sincheon's waterways and create Sincheon's unique cultural value, transforming Sincheon into a premium ecological stream in the urban center where history and culture flow. The detailed design service will be completed by the end of this year, and the project is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
Using the clear water of the Nakdong River supplied for maintaining Sincheon, a wall fountain waterfall and a natural-style small stream will be created to highlight Sincheon's flow. Around the small stream, walking paths and cultural resting areas will be connected to install healing, rest, and exchange spaces where citizens can directly experience the clear water of the Nakdong River by dipping their feet.
Additionally, Zelkova and hackberry trees, known as Sincheon trees (Sincheonsoob) recorded as 'Daegu's forest' in the Gyeongsang-do Daegu-bu town records compiled around 1907, will be planted. These will harmonize with the existing pine tree clusters transplanted due to the construction of the Dalseong Gachang Water Purification Plant discharge treatment facility.
