The Lifelong Learning Center has been used as a lifelong education venue in Pohang City, but the surrounding area has been criticized for having a low density of trees serving as an urban forest and for vegetation being concentrated in deciduous species, making it dry and barren during the winter season.
Accordingly, Pohang City has been promoting the Baetmeori Village Cultural Forest at the Lifelong Learning Center since last year, with the plan to provide various benefits of the forest, and recently completed it.
On the 78,000㎡ plaza of the Lifelong Learning Center, adjacent to the steel industrial complex and sewage treatment facilities, about 5517 various trees including pine trees were planted with an investment of approximately 1.2 billion KRW to serve as a buffer against various pollutants, creating a 'community-type forest' encompassing culture, history, ecology, and landscape.
While the railway forest, which passes through the entire downtown area of Pohang, is meaningful as a 'great green line,' the cultural forest is expected to serve as a green link connecting a key route throughout the city area according to the green new deal policy, Pohang City explained.
