Singer Kim Heung-guk Sent to Prosecution on Charges of Motorcycle Hit-and-Run
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Singer Kim Heung-guk (63) has been referred to the prosecution on charges of hit-and-run after hitting a motorcycle rider while driving.
On the 1st, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul announced that they had sent Kim to the prosecution with an opinion to indict him on charges of hit-and-run injury under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and violation of the Road Traffic Act (failure to take measures after an accident).
Kim is accused of illegally turning left against a signal and hitting a motorcycle while driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) at an intersection in Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 11:20 a.m. on April 24, and fleeing the scene. It is reported that the motorcycle rider injured his leg in the accident.
After media reports, a vehicle black box video released by Kim's side showed the motorcycle hitting Kim's vehicle and passing by, sparking controversy over the authenticity of the accident.
However, according to the police investigation, Kim turned left at a red light at the time of the accident, while the motorcycle went straight at a yellow light, indicating that Kim's violation of the signal was the greater fault.
It was also found that Kim's vehicle had entered the intersection deeply while turning left, blocking the motorcycle's path.
