The 5th Domestic Case of COVID-19-Associated Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children and Adolescents: 8-Year-Old Boy (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced on the 1st that the fifth domestic case of COVID-19-related Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) has been confirmed in South Korea.
Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) is a rare condition reported primarily among children and adolescents in Europe and the United States since April last year. It is a systemic inflammatory response that occurs weeks after COVID-19 infection, characterized by fever, rash, and multiple organ dysfunction.
The latest case involves an 8-year-old boy who was infected through contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient. He was admitted to a residential treatment center for 9 days in early February and discharged. Subsequently, he developed symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and headache, was hospitalized at a medical institution on the 21st of last month, and was discharged on the 26th after his symptoms improved.
The case was reported on the 22nd of last month, and after epidemiological investigation, laboratory testing, and expert meetings, it was confirmed as a case consistent with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children.
