Biden Surprises City Restaurant Visit Following Ice Cream Shop Stop... Citizens Cheer
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suhwan] U.S. President Joe Biden visited a famous restaurant in Washington DC on the Memorial Day holiday with First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband. Citizens nearby cheered in response to President Biden's unplanned visit.
On the 31st (local time), President Biden made a surprise visit to the French restaurant 'Le Diplomate' in downtown Washington DC, which was not on his scheduled itinerary. This is the first time President Biden has dined out at a Washington DC restaurant since taking office.
President Biden visited this restaurant after visiting Arlington National Cemetery near Washington DC in the morning to commemorate Memorial Day, which is similar to Korea's Hyeonchungil (Memorial Day).
Videos posted on Twitter and Instagram show citizens cheering as President Biden stepped out of his official vehicle. In response, President Biden raised his right hand to greet them.
Le Diplomate is one of the popular restaurants in Washington DC. President Biden has visited this restaurant several times, including during his vice presidency. Vice President Harris, who had an apartment in Washington DC during her time as a senator, is also known to have frequently ordered food delivery from Le Diplomate.
Le Diplomate is also known as a restaurant frequently visited by former President Barack Obama and his wife. Additionally, Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of former President Donald Trump, has visited the restaurant.
Earlier, President Biden attracted attention by visiting downtown restaurants without prior notice. On the first Sunday after his inauguration, he visited a church and then stopped by a bagel shop called 'Call Your Mother' to pick up an order, which reportedly doubled its sales in a single day.
Because of this, many restaurants in Washington DC are reportedly waiting for President Biden's visit and even competing to host him, according to The Washingtonian.
President Biden's actions are drawing more attention because they contrast with those of former President Trump.
