New COVID-19 Cases Remain in the 400s for Third Day... First Dose Vaccination Rate at 11.3% (Update)
412,599 Vaccinations Administered the Previous Day... 4.2% Fully Vaccinated
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] On the 1st, the number of new domestic COVID-19 cases remained in the 400s for the third consecutive day, with 459 new cases reported. As weekday vaccinations resumed in full swing, more than 410,000 people received vaccines in a single day.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight, 459 new domestic COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 140,799. By infection route, 449 cases were locally transmitted and 10 were imported. On the day, the number of suspected case tests was 37,244, with 30,095 tests conducted at temporary screening clinics in the metropolitan area and 3,153 tests at temporary screening clinics outside the metropolitan area, totaling 76,492 tests. At the temporary screening clinics, 66 positive cases were confirmed in the metropolitan area and 12 in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, Seoul reported 146 cases, Gyeonggi 116, and Incheon 16, with more than half of the cases coming from the metropolitan area. In non-metropolitan areas, Daegu reported 39 cases, Busan 28, Daejeon 19, Gangwon 13, Jeju 12, Chungbuk and Chungnam 11 each, Gyeongbuk 9, Gyeongnam 8, Jeonbuk 6, Gwangju and Jeonnam 5 each, Sejong 3, and Ulsan 2, with cases reported in all regions.
The cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths increased by 4 from the previous day, reaching 1,963. The number of critically ill patients increased by 9 to 158. An additional 640 patients were declared recovered and released from isolation, bringing the total to 131,463.

Additionally, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight, 412,599 people received vaccines in one day. The number of new first-dose vaccinations increased by 385,535, bringing the total number of people who completed the first dose to 5,791,503. The number of new second-dose vaccinations increased by 27,064, with a cumulative total of 2,171,336. The vaccination rate relative to the population was 11.3% for the first dose and 4.2% for those fully vaccinated.
