Governor Lee Cheol-woo Holds Meeting with Daegu-Gyeongbuk University Presidents... "Joint Response to Regional Extinction"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] On the 31st, Gyeongbuk Province held a meeting at the provincial office, inviting Hong Won-hwa, president of Kyungpook National University, and 21 university presidents belonging to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional University Education Council to discuss joint measures to overcome local extinction and the crisis of regional universities.
Governor Lee Cheol-woo explained the purpose of the meeting, saying, "The crisis of universities is just beginning, and the population decline cannot be stopped," and "To minimize the damage to universities and regions, local governments and universities must prepare together from a mid- to long-term perspective."
Gyeongbuk Province and the 21 universities belonging to the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Regional University Education Council held a signing ceremony for an agreement to mutually cooperate in overcoming local extinction and the crisis of regional universities.
According to this agreement, Gyeongbuk Province plans to support university research activities and jointly carry out provincial projects. The universities will share research outcomes in areas such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, bio-health, energy, transportation, culture-tourism, and agriculture and fisheries. Additionally, Gyeongbuk Province and the universities agreed to mutually cooperate in the joint use of research equipment and facilities, mutual exchange of research personnel, and the formation and operation of a win-win cooperation council.
