KT to Build Data Center in Ansan City... MOU Signed
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] KT announced on the 31st that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ansan City focusing on the construction and operation of an Internet Data Center (IDC).
The detailed contents of this MOU include ▲contributing to the development of smart industries and revitalization of the local economy ▲promotion of the IDC Research and Development (R&D) center development project ▲cooperation in expanding social overhead capital facilities.
Accordingly, KT and Ansan City plan to promote the construction of Ansan IDC (tentative name) in cooperation with Ansan IDC Co., Ltd., a special purpose corporation.
For the construction of Ansan IDC, KT will undertake the construction and operation of the IDC R&D center, ensure a stable communication network, and secure future tenant demand. Ansan City will review related sites and provide administrative support to facilitate the smooth progress of the data center construction. Ansan IDC Co., Ltd. will lead efforts to attract overseas capital investment.
KT and Ansan City plan to use the construction of Ansan IDC as a stepping stone to attract various IT companies within Ansan City and continuously foster the 4th Industrial Revolution centered on Ansan City.
KT currently operates the largest number of 14 IDCs in Korea, including the recently completed Yongsan IDC, and based on this, has been providing KT Cloud services with nationwide coverage for 10 years.
Yun Hwa-seop, Mayor of Ansan City, said, “The construction of the IDC is highly significant for securing new growth engines and revitalizing the local economy, and it will have a positive impact such as revitalizing the upstream and downstream industrial ecosystem. We expect considerable synergy effects in strengthening the competitiveness of the Ansan Smart Hub as well as in the process of transforming into a smart industrial complex.”

Shin Su-jeong, Head of KT Enterprise Division, emphasized, “KT is reviewing various plans related to the IDC project with Ansan City. Through the Ansan IDC project, we will actively cooperate with local governments and actively participate in the development of ICT industries based in the region.”
