Hurim Robot Develops Logistics Platform 'Tetra DS 5'... "Expected to Be Utilized in Industrial Sites"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hurim Robot announced on the 31st that it will introduce the next-generation mobile platform ‘TETRA-DS 5,’ which enables autonomous driving using SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology and offers excellent scalability and modularity.
Hurim Robot has continuously developed mobile logistics platforms since launching the ‘TETRA-DS 1’ in 2005. Until the release of TETRA-DS 4 in 2012, these robots were mainly used as research robots for the advancement of the robotics industry in research institutes and schools rather than industrial sites, due to production costs and other factors.
The newly released TETRA-DS 5 measures 600ⅹ490ⅹ335mm. Equipped with LiDAR sensors, ultrasonic sensors, and 3D cameras, it enables precise autonomous driving in complex indoor environments such as logistics warehouses. Additionally, it has been developed to support a payload of 120kg, making it highly applicable in industrial settings.
Hurim Robot plans to complete tests soon for heavy logistics delivery within factories by equipping the TETRA-DS 5 with conveyor belts and auxiliary units for raw materials and jigs. Tests are also underway to utilize the robot for transporting hazardous chemicals. Notably, the unit mounted on the robot can supply power from 5 to 24V without a separate converter, enhancing practicality.
Furthermore, Hurim Robot developed the TETRA-DS 5 based on the ROS (Robot Operating System). By embedding its own OS, it overcame the drawback of poor interoperability between robots and improved compatibility among robots.
In particular, the TETRA-DS 5 was developed to allow users to check and operate the device by installing an application on a tablet PC or smartphone, improving convenience and usability compared to existing robots that require dedicated joysticks or PCs.
A Hurim Robot official stated, “The TETRA-DS 5 is a platform robot that can be customized according to user requirements and applied to various industrial sites. Combining the development of the domestic robotics industry and Hurim Robot’s technology, the TETRA-DS 5 also offers better price competitiveness than existing logistics platform robots.”
