Focused Promotion of Education to Understand and Practice Carbon Neutrality... 11 Elementary, Middle, and High Schools in the Region... Customized Education by Target Audience, Including Educational Tools Experience, Comic Drawing, and Board Games
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is conducting a "Climate Change Response Visiting Environmental Education" program for elementary, middle, and high school students, the future generation, to overcome the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
This education program involves environmental education instructors visiting schools in the area to raise awareness about the seriousness of global warming and to encourage the practice of carbon neutrality in daily life.
Based on a preliminary demand survey, applications were received from 6 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 high schools, and the program will run until November.
Customized education will be provided for each level?elementary, middle, and high school?covering the causes and current status of climate change, the importance of suppressing global temperature rise, and the meaning of carbon neutrality, aiming to raise awareness about environmental protection and encourage the practice of a carbon-neutral lifestyle.
For elementary students, after watching climate change video materials, activities such as creating and presenting comics will be conducted to foster interest in climate change. In the renewable energy technology experience program, students will learn about related technologies and engage in hands-on activities using solar-powered cars.
Middle and high school students will understand the meaning of sustainable development related to climate change through board games and have time to internalize the necessity of international cooperation to solve climate change issues.
Additionally, energy-related education such as reducing nuclear power plants and the necessity of using LEDs will be provided, and experiential activities using LED teaching aids will increase students' interest and enthusiasm.
Each program will be conducted in strict compliance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines and will be flexibly operated according to the school academic schedule and the COVID-19 situation at each stage.
Meanwhile, the district operates the Gwanak Eco Exploration Course and Gwanak Ecological School to improve various environmental problems caused by climate change and rapid urbanization. This year, it plans to focus on designing a blended online and offline teaching method and promoting education that induces understanding and practice of carbon neutrality.
