The Only Selected Candidate Among 6 Nationwide Applications
Government to Support 1.5 Billion KRW Over 3 Years for Agricultural Heritage Preservation and Succession
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Congressman Kim Seung-nam (Jeonnam Goheung·Boseong·Jangheung·Gangjin) announced on the 28th that “the Gangjin County Yeonbangjuk Ecological Circulation Waterway Agricultural System has been designated as the 16th National Important Agricultural Heritage by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.”
The National Important Agricultural Heritage system refers to a system designated by the government for tangible and intangible agricultural resources that have been formed over a long period while adapting to the environment, society, and customs, and are considered valuable for preservation and succession.
Since 2013, 15 sites have been designated, and the system is legally based on the “Special Act on Improving the Quality of Life of Farmers, Fishermen, and Rural Development.”
The newly designated “Gangjin Yeonbangjuk Ecological Circulation Waterway Agricultural System” was the only one selected among six candidate regions nationwide that applied to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
To preserve and inherit agricultural heritage, it will receive government funding of 1.5 billion KRW over the next three years.
The Gangjin Yeonbangjuk Ecological Circulation Waterway Agricultural System is a structure that stores, preserves, and reuses water by constructing Yeonbangjuk waterways throughout the farmland to supply agricultural water to the Handeul Plain, the second largest farmland area in Jeonnam excluding reclaimed land, due to the relocation of Byeongyeong Fortress and lack of rivers in 1417.
It has overcome unfavorable agricultural environments and created a double-cropping agricultural environment for rice cultivation, garlic, onions, and other crops.
