How About Trying a New Hobby This Summer?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) is recruiting students for the ‘Gangseo Lifelong Academy’ scheduled to open this summer from June 1 to June 8.

The program will run from July 1 to September 30, once a week, for a total of 12 weeks.

‘Gangseo Lifelong Academy’ is a course designed to allow anyone to enjoy the pleasure of learning and access high-quality lifelong learning programs. It is popular because it offers various courses such as health, hobbies, foreign languages, certifications, and cooking, allowing participants to enjoy leisure time and develop hobbies.

Lectures are divided into online courses and courses that switch between online and offline.

Online courses include specialized foreign language courses, hobbies, cooking, certification programs, and photography and organizing/storage courses for office workers.

For courses that switch between online and offline, the default is online lectures, but when social distancing is at level 1.5 or below, classes will be conducted on-site.

Courses are categorized into skills, health, hobbies, foreign languages, certifications, cooking, and office worker fields, with a total of 32 courses prepared.

Various courses are available, including hobbies such as acoustic guitar, belly dance, and calligraphy; skill acquisition like French embroidery and daily beauty; certifications such as confectionery and baking technician and beginner coffee; and health courses including acupressure and daily health taping.

Applications can be made on the Gangseo Lifelong Learning Center website from 9 a.m. on June 1 to 6 p.m. on June 8.

Each person can apply for up to two courses. The tuition fee is 15,000 KRW for online courses and 30,000 KRW for courses switching between online and offline.

If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, students will be selected through a random computerized lottery, and selected applicants will be individually notified via text message.

A district official said, “This summer, we have prepared various courses so that Gangseo Lifelong Academy can satisfy residents’ thirst for learning. We hope many people will take interest and participate, as it is a valuable time to create new hobbies and soothe minds tired from COVID-19.”
