Appointment of Oh Young-sik, Former Democratic Party Lawmaker, as New Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] On the 27th, the Office for Government Policy Coordination announced that Oh Young-sik (54), a former three-term National Assembly member and former president of Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister (at the vice-ministerial level).
The new Chief Secretary Oh previously served as the president of the student council at Korea University and as the 2nd chairman of the National Council of Student Representatives, and was a member of the National Assembly for the 16th, 17th, and 19th terms.
After losing in the primary election ahead of the 20th general election, he took office as KORAIL president in February 2018 but resigned mid-term in December of the same year, taking responsibility for the high-speed train (KTX) derailment accident.

The Office for Government Policy Coordination stated, "We expect that Oh Young-sik will play a certain role in successfully concluding the last year of the Moon Jae-in administration by assisting Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, who has emphasized national unity," explaining the background of his appointment as the new Chief Secretary.
