Gwangju Seobu Fire Station Awarded 'Brave 119 Citizen Award' for Early Fire Suppression Contribution
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Western Fire Station (Chief Lee Cheontaek) awarded Mr. Choi Hongseok the ‘Brave 119 Citizen Award’ for using a fire extinguisher to suppress the fire at Yangdong Bokgae Market immediately upon discovery.
According to the Western Fire Station on the 27th, Mr. Choi attempted initial suppression using a nearby fire extinguisher when a fire broke out in a store on the second floor of Yangdong Market the previous morning, preventing significant damage as smoke spread.
The fire is estimated to have started from a fluorescent light installed on the wall inside the store, and if a prompt response had not been made, the flames could have spread to adjacent stores, causing extensive damage.
