[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] In-depth discussions are being held among experts from various fields and the public regarding the mid- to long-term logistics policy direction to respond to the recent rapid changes in the logistics environment.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 27th that they will jointly hold an online public hearing on the 28th to gather opinions from various sectors on the "5th National Logistics Basic Plan (draft)".
The National Logistics Basic Plan is a top-level plan established jointly by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries every 10 years, covering land, air, and maritime logistics. The 5th National Logistics Basic Plan is being formulated five years after the 4th plan.
Due to the spread of COVID-19 and the increase in online shopping, demand for logistics services has surged, and requests for the advancement and digitalization of the logistics industry have greatly increased, causing the logistics industry environment to change rapidly recently. Accordingly, this 5th plan draft emphasizes the role of leading logistics that can spread the added value created in the logistics industry to other industries and focuses on preparing strategies for building a smart logistics system.
Under the vision of "Leading the global logistics nation through smart and digital innovation growth of the logistics industry and the creation of a win-win ecosystem," the plan sets goals such as ▲ advancement of logistics systems, ▲ expansion of shared and connected infrastructure, ▲ people-centered jobs, ▲ creation of a sustainable logistics environment, ▲ securing future responsiveness of the logistics industry, and ▲ strengthening global competitiveness.
At the public hearing, the Korea Transport Institute and the Korea Maritime Institute will present the strategies and tasks of the 5th National Logistics Basic Plan (draft), which were prepared through public perception surveys, industry-academia-research subcommittee meetings, and expert advisory meetings. Related logistics experts attending the hearing will provide various opinions to ensure a substantial plan.
