Launch of Inter-Ministerial Working Group for Cyberbullying Prevention and Response
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The government has formed a working council and decided to strengthen education and campaigns targeting students, parents, and instructors to prevent the increasingly serious issue of cyberbullying.
On the 27th, the Ministry of Education announced that it would launch the "Student Cyberbullying Prevention and Response Working Council" (hereafter referred to as the Working Council) in cooperation with related ministries and hold its first meeting that afternoon at the Government Sejong Complex.
The Working Council includes officials from seven ministries?Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and ICT, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Korea Communications Commission, and the National Police Agency?as well as six related agencies, following the "Measures to Strengthen Student Cyberbullying Prevention and Response" jointly established by related ministries last April.
The related ministries have agreed to actively collaborate to prepare measures for preventing and responding to cyberbullying. They will provide relevant materials to enable focused classes, activities, and campaigns during the upcoming "Cyberbullying Prevention Education Week (June 14?18)."
They plan to hold meetings at least once every quarter to discuss ▲ the implementation status of each ministry’s tasks under the student cyberbullying prevention and response enhancement plan ▲ institutional improvements and supplements in response to changes in the policy environment ▲ and measures to address current issues.
The Ministry of Education will develop and distribute cyberbullying prevention educational materials and a standard training curriculum for teachers, and promote related education such as remote media literacy training content for parents and training for Wee Class coordinators. It will also strengthen support by designating case managers for cyberbullying victims at each Wee Center and linking counseling, hospital treatment, and legal consultation for students who are victims of digital sex crimes.
