Luxury Gwangyang Maesil Holds Shipping Ceremony
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeonnam, announced on the 26th that it held the first shipment ceremony of the 2021 Gwangyang Maesil at the Okgok branch sorting center of the Gwangyang Dongbu Nonghyup on the 24th.
The shipment ceremony was attended by Kim Kyung-ho, Deputy Mayor of Gwangyang City, Jin Su-hwa, Chairman of the Gwangyang City Council and council members, the head of the Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, the head of the Gwangyang City branch of Nonghyup, local Nonghyup heads, and other stakeholders in production and distribution, who toured the maesil purchasing and sorting site and encouraged the stakeholders and maesil producers.
This year’s maesil production is expected to be at the average level, and the purchase from farms by local Nonghyup branches will be conducted from May 24 to June 10 for green maesil and from June 14 to July 3 for Namgo maesil.
Gwangyang City is the ‘largest maesil production area in Korea’ with optimal maesil cultivation conditions due to its warm climate and abundant sunlight. Gwangyang Maesil is characterized by a higher citric acid content, stronger aroma, and clearer color compared to maesil from other regions.
In particular, Gwangyang Maesil, registered under the Geographical Indication System (No. 36) and designated as a Maesil Industry Special Zone, has been recognized as Korea’s top luxury maesil brand, winning the Grand Prize for Consumer Trust Brand awarded by the Korea Brand Management Association for six consecutive years since 2015, gaining trust and value.
The city is promoting various customized policy projects such as manpower support for maesil orchard pruning, support for powered pruning shears, and support for direct transaction packaging materials to further enhance the competitiveness of Gwangyang Maesil and maintain its reputation as a premium maesil.
Additionally, to expand the consumption of Gwangyang Maesil, the city is actively carrying out various promotional activities including support for home shopping sales, distribution of equipment for pickled maesil processing, and consumer publicity.
