KOSPI Starts Higher Amid Institutional Buying Pressure
KOSDAQ Starts Up 0.06% on Individual Buying Momentum
[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] Institutional buying is leading to a rise in the KOSPI.
On the 26th, the KOSPI opened at 3,171.91, up 0.02% (0.59 points) from the previous trading day. It even rose to 3,182.83 at 9:12 a.m. that day.
Institutional buying was particularly strong. On that day, foreigners net bought 9.9 billion KRW, and institutions net bought 70 billion KRW. Individuals net sold 80.1 billion KRW.
Most sectors rose. The machinery sector had the largest increase at 1.65%. This was followed by food and beverage (0.97%), electric and gas utilities (0.85%), services (0.54%), and construction (0.48%). Steel and metals (-0.86%), pharmaceuticals (-0.70%), textiles and apparel (-0.64%), banking (-0.45%), and chemicals (-0.34%) declined.
The stock prices of the top 10 companies by market capitalization were mixed. NAVER had the largest increase at 1.26%. This was followed by Kakao (0.85%), Kia (0.61%), Samsung Electronics (0.38%), and Hyundai Motor (0.22%). LG Chem (-4.26%), Samsung Biologics (-0.82%), Samsung SDI (-0.62%), and Celltrion (-0.55%) declined. SK Hynix remained flat.
On the same day, the KOSDAQ opened at 962.69, up 0.06% (0.62 points) from the previous trading day. It also rose to 966.64 at 9:32 a.m.
KOSDAQ saw strong buying from individuals. Individuals net bought 92.5 billion KRW. Foreigners and institutions sold 28.4 billion KRW and 48.2 billion KRW, respectively.
Almost all sectors showed strength. Broadcasting services had the largest increase at 1.94%. This was followed by construction (1.66%), telecommunications and broadcasting services (1.51%), publishing and media replication (1.04%), and digital content (0.98%). Distribution (-0.58%), textiles and apparel (-0.48%), transportation equipment and parts (-0.37%), internet (-0.19%), and other services (-0.17%) declined.

The direction of the top 10 companies by market capitalization was mixed. CJ ENM had the largest increase at 3.45%. This was followed by EcoPro BM (1.78%), Seegene (1.43%), Kakao Games (1.17%), and Alteogen (0.42%). The largest decline was HL B at -0.90%. This was followed by Celltrion Healthcare (-0.51%), Celltrion Pharm (-0.44%), Pearl Abyss (-0.17%), and SK Materials (-0.13%) showing weakness.
