[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 26th that 119 emergency calls related to beehive removal and bee sting accidents have been increasing due to the recent rise in temperature.
According to statistics from the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters, the total number of dispatches for beehive removal last year was 13,796. In particular, a total of 12,229 dispatches (88.6%) were concentrated over four months from June to September last year. This averages to 102 dispatches per day.
During the same period, 665 out of 826 bee sting patients (80.5%) occurred intensively, and so far this year, 50 people have used ambulances due to bee stings.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration forecast, the temperature in June this year is expected to be higher than the average (23~24 degrees Celsius), and the heatwave is predicted to continue through July and August, which is expected to increase bee activity.
The Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters emphasized that during outdoor activities such as hiking or grass cutting, if bees are present nearby or if bees are coming and going in the ground or tree branches, there may be a beehive, so caution is needed. They also recommended wearing bright-colored clothes such as white or yellow and wearing hats during outdoor activities.
