The Corruption Investigation Office Begins Third Investigation... Leak of 'Lee Seong-yoon Indictment'
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] The High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Unit (HCIC) has launched an investigation into allegations that Lee Seong-yoon, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, leaked an indictment. This is the HCIC's third official investigation.
According to the legal community on the 25th, the HCIC conducted a three-hour complainant interrogation yesterday afternoon with Kim Han-me, the representative of the Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice (Sasehaeng).
On the 17th, Representative Kim filed a complaint with the HCIC, accusing a current prosecutor of intentionally leaking Chief Prosecutor Lee's indictment to a specific media outlet and requesting punishment for violating official secrets. During the complainant interrogation, the HCIC focused on confirming the circumstances that led Kim to file the complaint and whether the content meets the criteria for the crime of leaking official secrets.
Representative Kim stated, "Since the indictment was leaked in its entirety before being delivered to the concerned party, it constitutes a violation of official secrets."

Meanwhile, the prosecution has already indicted Chief Prosecutor Lee, who is suspected of exerting external pressure during the investigation into the illegal travel ban of former Deputy Minister of Justice Kim Hak-ui. After a summary of the indictment was reported through the media, Minister of Justice Park Beom-gye ordered the Supreme Prosecutors' Office to identify the leaker and instructed an internal inspection. The Supreme Prosecutors' Office is currently conducting an inspection related to the indictment leak.
