Guro-gu Resumes Senior Center Operations for Elderly Vaccinated Against COVID-19
From June 1, 197 Senior Centers to Open Autonomously... Use Allowed Only After 2 Weeks from First Vaccination... Open 4 Hours from 1 PM to 5 PM, Capacity Limits... No Meals or Contact Programs Offered
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] “Get your COVID-19 vaccine and use the community centers for seniors!”
Guro-gu (Mayor Lee Seong) will resume the operation of community centers for seniors, which were suspended due to COVID-19, starting June 1.
Guro-gu stated on the 25th, “This measure was prepared to alleviate the isolation and depression experienced by the elderly due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” and added, “As phased vaccination progresses, we plan to operate the facilities for seniors who have completed vaccination.”
Among the 197 community centers for seniors in the area, only those wishing to reopen will be voluntarily opened, and the users must be seniors who have passed at least two weeks after their first COVID-19 vaccine dose.
Before reopening, Guro-gu established separate quarantine guidelines.
The operating hours will be limited to 4 hours from 1 PM to 5 PM, with restrictions on the number of people admitted to maintain social distancing. Quarantine supplies such as masks, hand sanitizers, and thermometers will be provided, and contact programs like Baduk (Go) and Janggi (Korean chess), meals, and bringing in food are prohibited.
Each community center will designate an infection control officer to verify the first COVID-19 vaccination certificate and confirm that at least two weeks have passed, check mask-wearing, record visitor lists, conduct temperature checks, and strictly follow quarantine rules such as regular ventilation and disinfection. An emergency contact system has also been established with the district office, local community centers, and Guro-gu Public Health Center to prepare for emergencies.
Meanwhile, Guro-gu is accepting pre-registrations for COVID-19 vaccination for seniors aged 60 to 74 until June 3. Those who wish to make a pre-vaccination reservation can do so by phone.
Additionally, reservations can be made through online sites, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) hotline 1339, the Health and Welfare Counseling Center 129, or by visiting local community centers.
