The city plans to actively assist farms facing difficulties in securing labor due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic restricting the entry of foreign seasonal workers, as well as the decline and aging of the rural population.
The support targets are farmers within the city. Priority will be given to farms unable to perform agricultural work due to COVID-19 illness or injury, marginalized farms such as elderly farmers, disabled persons, women, and those living alone, and farms that urgently need manual labor for fruit trees and field crops.
The main spring labor assistance tasks include bagging pears, thinning persimmons, and harvesting field crops?agricultural work that requires significant manual labor and cannot be replaced by machines.
The city has opened and operates a ‘Rural Labor Assistance Desk’ in all towns and townships to promote a city-wide rural labor assistance movement, with voluntary participation from public officials, related organizations, military units, public institutions relocated to the Innovation City, and volunteer groups.
On the 21st, Mayor Jo Gyu-il of Jinju and about 50 employees from the Agricultural Technology Center visited a pear orchard in Oksan-ri, Munsan-eup, where they worked hard to assist with bagging and other tasks.
