Gyeongnam Province Begins Universal Support for Menstrual Products for Adolescent Girls
Justice Party Provincial Assembly Member Lee Young-sil's Representative Proposal
'Gyeongsangnam-do Ordinance on Support for Menstrual Products for Female Adolescents' Passed in Plenary Session
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] On the 20th, the "Gyeongsangnam-do Ordinance on Support for Sanitary Products for Women and Adolescents," proposed by Provincial Assembly Member Lee Youngsil (Proportional Representation, Justice Party), was finally passed at the 2nd plenary session of the 385th extraordinary meeting of the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly.
Through the enactment of the "Gyeongsangnam-do Ordinance on Support for Sanitary Products for Women and Adolescents," a legal basis has been established to provide sanitary products to all female adolescents in Gyeongnam.
Instead of targeting low-income adolescents, universal provision for all women and adolescents marks the first step at the Gyeongnam provincial level.
With the passage of this ordinance, all female adolescents aged 11 to 18 residing in Gyeongsangnam-do with resident registration can now receive support for sanitary products.
Assembly Member Lee stated, "Through meetings with adolescent stakeholders, we shared concerns about the issue of providing sanitary products only to vulnerable groups," emphasizing, "The method of selectively giving sanitary pads to poor adolescents is no different from stigmatization."
