Police Close Investigation into Threats Against Nurse Vaccinating President Moon... No Intention to Prosecute
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police identified the individual who made threatening phone calls to the nurses who administered COVID-19 vaccines to President Moon Jae-in, but the case was closed as the victims did not wish to press charges.
On the 19th, the Jongno Police Station in Seoul announced that they decided not to prosecute after the victims expressed their intention not to pursue legal action.
Earlier, on March 23, President Moon and his wife received their first dose of the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine at the Jongno-gu Public Health Center. On the same day, some online communities raised suspicions of syringe swapping, claiming that "the syringe with the cap open was used to draw the vaccine, then after going behind the partition, a syringe with the cap closed came out," and these allegations quickly spread. The health authorities explained that this was a measure to prevent contamination of the syringe needle.
According to Jongno-gu, starting from the morning of the 24th, dozens of phone calls were made to the health center and the nurses in charge. Some of these calls included threats such as "I will set fire," "I will blow it up," and demands to "reveal the truth because (the government's explanation) is a lie." The police also took protective measures for the nurses involved.
