Seokgwan-dong 'Hyodam Eun Package Sharing' Event Held Sharing Filial Piety Ahead of Parents' Day During Difficult COVID-19 Period... Wolgok 1-dong Community Security Council Delivers Fans and Gift Packages to 50 Vulnerable Households for Heatwave Preparedness
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Seokgwan-dong Community Service Center (Director Lee Dae-hyun) held the 'Hyodam Gift Package Sharing Ceremony' on the 7th, ahead of Parents' Day.
Organized by the Seokgwan-dong Community Welfare Council (Chairman Jeon Sang-il), this sharing event was supported by the Neighborhood Association (welfare neighborhood leaders), Pretty Hands Volunteer Group, Hansang, and others, delivering carnations, bean sprout cultivators, seasonal fruits, mugwort rice cakes, noodles, and masks.
In particular, the rice cakes made with mugwort, carefully harvested by the Pretty Hands Volunteer Group to wish for the health of the elderly, added special meaning to the filial piety shown to the seniors.
Jeon Sang-il, Chairman of the Seokgwan-dong Community Welfare Council, said, “In a situation where emotional difficulties are increasing due to COVID-19, it is our hope that the Seokgwan-dong welfare community can bring some joy to the elderly living alone. The Seokgwan-dong Community Security Council is delivering the ‘Hyodam Gift Package’ to low-income seniors. We hope to bring happiness.”
In response, Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, expressed gratitude to all sponsors, saying, “I believe that the distance created by social distancing can be overcome through the warm affection and sharing of the local welfare community.”
Director Lee Dae-hyun of Seokgwan-dong also added, “It seems that everyone’s hearts have come together to make Seokgwan-dong abundant and beautiful. We will do our best to create a Seokgwan-dong without any social exclusion.”
The ‘Hyodam Gift Package’ was delivered to low-income seniors who may feel even more isolated due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and difficulty in family visits. Welfare neighborhood leaders from each district (43 people) recommended one household each, and seven households recommended by the Community Security Council members were visited door-to-door to deliver the packages along with greetings. One senior, wearing a carnation on their chest, expressed gratitude, saying, “This is better than my daughter or son.”
The Wolgok 1-dong Community Security Council also contributed to the warmth of sharing for Parents' Day. On the 7th, ahead of Parents' Day, the Wolgok 1-dong Community Service Center was busy preparing gift packages for the elderly. In preparation for the upcoming heatwave, fans and gift packages were prepared. The gift packages contained items donated by local welfare centers, organizations, and residents, including yakgwa (traditional Korean sweets), coffee, masks, towels, and lotion.
