20s Male Arrested and Sent to Prosecution for Indiscriminate Assault on Taxi Driver on Road
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 20s who indiscriminately assaulted a taxi driver on the road has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 14th, the Seoul Gwanak Police Station announced that they had sent Park Mo (21), who was detained on charges of serious injury and assaulting a driver under the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, to the prosecution.
Park is accused of knocking down a taxi driver in his 60s near Nangok Tunnel on the 5th and assaulting him multiple times on the road. It was also investigated that Park injured a citizen who tried to stop him and resisted the police, leading to additional charges of injury and obstruction of official duties.
Park reportedly stated that he committed the crime out of anger because the victim scolded him for vomiting inside the taxi. The victim is receiving treatment at a hospital but has not yet regained consciousness.

Meanwhile, a video filmed by a witness at the time of the crime was spread online, prompting a national petition demanding severe punishment for Park. The petition received over 200,000 signatures on the 12th, making it eligible for an official government response.
