'Sexual Harassment and Retaliation' Seo Ji-hyun's Compensation Lawsuit Against Ahn Tae-geun to Reach First Trial Verdict Today
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The first trial verdict in the damages lawsuit filed by Prosecutor Seo Ji-hyun, who claimed she was sexually harassed and faced personnel disadvantages by former Prosecutor General Ahn Tae-geun, will be announced on the 14th.
Judge Kim Dae-won of Civil Division 93 at the Seoul Central District Court will deliver the verdict in the morning on the damages claim lawsuit filed by Prosecutor Seo against former Prosecutor General Ahn and the state. The total claim amount is 100 million won. Prosecutor Seo filed the lawsuit in November 2018, alleging that former Prosecutor General Ahn forcibly harassed her while serving as head of the Ministry of Justice Policy Planning Division and retaliated against her with personnel actions after being promoted to Director of the Prosecutor's Office at the Ministry of Justice.

In previous hearings, Prosecutor Seo's side argued that the criminal trial acquittal was based on legal technicalities, but it is a clear fact that Prosecutor Seo was subjected to harassment and personnel disadvantages, and therefore former Prosecutor General Ahn and the state bear liability for damages. Former Prosecutor General Ahn was sentenced to two years in prison in the first and second trials for retaliatory personnel actions intended to suppress Prosecutor Seo's sexual harassment disclosure, but the Supreme Court acquitted him last October by remanding the case on grounds of acquittal, finalizing his innocence. The sexual harassment charges were not prosecuted due to the statute of limitations.
