Jinju-si Promotes 'Cool Roof' Support Project for Detached Houses
Indoor Temperature Reduction Leads to Increased Building Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Reduction Effects
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province announced on the 13th that it will promote a 'Cool Roof' support project targeting single-family homes to prevent damage from climate crises such as heatwaves and cold waves, while improving the energy efficiency of buildings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
'Cool Roof' refers to a project that applies bright-colored paint with reflective and waterproof effects to roofs, reducing the accumulation of heat and thereby decreasing heat transfer into the building.
Compared to conventional rooftops, Cool Roofs lower the rooftop surface temperature by 15 to 30 degrees Celsius and indoor temperature by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, saving 20% on cooling costs due to the reduced indoor temperature, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 6%.
The Cool Roof support project, implemented for the first time this year by the city, is expected to support 25 general households and 3 socially vulnerable households.
The city will provide differential payments covering the cost difference between waterproofing construction and heatwave mitigation construction, supporting up to 1.5 million KRW for socially vulnerable households and up to 750,000 KRW for general households.
Owners of single-family homes wishing to apply for construction can select a construction company and submit their application to the Environmental Management Division of City Hall starting from the 13th.
