[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) will build a multipurpose sports facility called the ‘Sanggye Community Sports Center’ near Danggogae Station on Subway Line 4 in Sanggye-dong.
The Sanggye Community Sports Center, to be constructed in the area of Sanggye-dong 95-182, will have 3 underground floors and 6 aboveground floors with a total floor area of 4,177㎡. Construction began in May this year and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2023.
The area around Sanggye 3 and 4-dong, where the center will be located, is densely populated with old and poor-quality housing, and there has been a high demand from residents for sports facilities due to a relative lack of cultural and sports infrastructure.
Designated as a housing redevelopment project area in 2014, the Sanggye 6 District Association, where construction began last year for 1,163 households, agreed with the district office to build the sports center and donate it to the district.
The sports center will not only provide sports facilities that contribute to residents’ health promotion through the activation of community sports but will also include care and convenience facilities for residents to increase its utilization.
Looking at the main facilities by floor, the third basement floor (309.09㎡) will house equipment such as water tanks and machine rooms, and the second basement floor (724.75㎡) will have a swimming pool facility.
The first basement floor (673.33㎡) will be used as a parking lot, and the first floor above ground (235.33㎡) will have a communal childcare room operated for children under five years old and their parents.
The second floor above ground (545.64㎡) will be developed as the i-Hu Center, an after-school care facility for elementary school students. Convenience spaces such as a laundry room and lounge will also be included.
The third floor above ground (547.18㎡) will consist of a multipurpose room and meeting rooms, and the fourth floor above ground (546㎡) will be used for sports facilities such as Pilates equipment, a gym, and a GX room.
The fifth floor above ground (545.11㎡) will house a multipurpose auditorium, and the sixth floor above ground (51.31㎡) will be used for electrical rooms and other purposes.
Currently, Nowon-gu operates two community sports centers, Wolgye Community Sports Center and Junggye Community Sports Center, but these have been insufficient to meet the demand for expanded sports facilities given the large population.
Accordingly, after starting construction of Suraksan Sports Town and Sanggye Community Sports Center in the first half of this year, the Gongneung Community Sports Center is scheduled to begin construction in the second half.
Additionally, the construction of the ‘Seoul Eoullim Sports Center’ and the ‘Second Student Gymnasium in the Gangbuk Area’ is underway. Once these projects are completed, local residents will be able to enjoy sports activities within their nearby living areas.
