"Name the Government Sejong New Office" Survey on Naming Until the 27th
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Government Complex Management Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 13th that it will conduct a survey from the 14th to the 27th to name the 'Government Sejong New Building (tentative name),' scheduled for completion in August next year.
As part of the relocation project of central administrative agencies to Sejong City, the Government Complex Management Headquarters is constructing a government complex in Sejong City. Since the completion of the Government Sejong Complex in 2014, the new building is being constructed to resolve the shortage of office space due to additional agency relocations. The existing complex, consisting of 15 connected buildings, is named 'Government Sejong Complex Buildings 1 to 15,' and two separate buildings located 2.5 km away are designated as 'Government Sejong Complex 2 Buildings 16 to 17.'
The new building's name will be established considering its spatial characteristics, located centrally within the existing complex (Buildings 1 to 15), and future expansion possibilities such as additional office buildings.
This naming contest for the new building was prepared to discover a name that reflects the value of a government complex shared not only by public officials but also by the people, and that is easy for all citizens to pronounce and recognize. Since May 2019, the Government Complex Management Headquarters has received various naming proposals from experts and resident agencies, and through discussions by the Government Sejong New Building Naming Committee, four name candidates were selected: Central Building, Building 18, Main Building, and Building 18 (Central Building).
In this survey, participants can express their preference among the name candidates selected by the Naming Committee and also propose other creative names. Anyone can participate through the Gwanghwamun 1st Street website menu.
To encourage active public participation, the Government Complex Management Headquarters will provide a small Onnuri gift certificate to selected participants by lottery. The lottery winners and survey results will be available on the Gwanghwamun 1st Street website survey participation menu in early June.
