Number of Employed Persons in Gwangju and Jeonnam Increases Consecutively from January to April This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] The number of employed people in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions has increased for four consecutive months.
According to the 'April Employment Trends' announced by the Honam Regional Statistics Office on the 12th, the number of employed people in Gwangju and Jeonnam last month was 751,000 and 982,000 respectively.
This represents an increase of 1.9% (14,000 people) in Gwangju and 2.2% (21,000 people) in Jeonnam compared to one year ago. During the same period, the employment rate also rose, with Gwangju increasing by 0.7 percentage points to 58.6%, and Jeonnam rising by 1.5 percentage points to 64.4%.
The number of employed people has been increasing every month since January this year. Gwangju recorded 724,000 in January, 739,000 in February, 744,000 in March, and 751,000 in April. Jeonnam recorded 920,000 in January, 951,000 in February, 970,000 in March, and 982,000 in April.
By industry, the sectors with the largest increase in employment last month were wholesale/retail, accommodation, and food service/construction (7%) in Gwangju, and electricity, transportation, communication, and finance (9%) in Jeonnam, leading the employment growth.
The industry with the largest decrease in employment during this period was manufacturing in both Gwangju and Jeonnam.
By occupation, in Gwangju, workers related to functional, machine operation, and simple assembly jobs (7.2%) increased the most, while in Jeonnam, skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers (10.8%) saw the largest increase.
Conversely, the occupations with the largest decrease in the number of employed people were skilled agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers (-11.1%) in Gwangju, and office workers (-13.2%) in Jeonnam.

Last month, the number of unemployed people decreased in both Gwangju and Jeonnam compared to the same period last year. Gwangju saw a decrease of 11.5%, and Jeonnam 1.6%. The unemployment rate also fell by 0.6 percentage points to 3.6% in Gwangju, and by 0.1 percentage points to 2.4% in Jeonnam.
