"I Might Emigrate"…YouTuber Who Released Jeong-in's Foster Mother’s Prison Letter Sued by Foster Father and In-Laws
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Choyoung] On the 9th, a YouTuber revealed a 'prison letter' sent by Jang Mo, the adoptive mother of Jeong In, to her husband and parents-in-law. It has been confirmed that the husband and parents-in-law have filed a complaint against the YouTuber with the police.
According to the adoptive parents' lawyer on the 12th, the husband Ahn Mo and his parents reported the YouTuber to the Andong Police Station in Gyeongbuk on the 9th, the day the live YouTube broadcast aired, and subsequently filed a complaint.
The YouTuber is suspected of violating the Criminal Act's secrecy infringement and the Protection of Communications Secrets Act. The police have summoned Ahn and others to complete the complainant investigation. The police plan to investigate the accused YouTuber soon.
The lawyer stated, "The YouTuber's unauthorized taking and public disclosure of a letter containing secrets between the defendants is a clear illegal act, constituting a secrecy infringement crime and possibly violating the Protection of Communications Secrets Act," adding, "This is a matter that could result in a prison sentence of more than one year."
During the live broadcast on the 9th, when asked about how the YouTuber obtained the letter, they replied, "I will accept punishment willingly," raising suspicions of illegal activity.
In the five-page letter, Jang urged for her biological daughter's English education. Beginning with "To my beloved husband," Jang wrote, "It would be good to read Bible stories in English like storytelling. Since the child likes it, you shouldn't just show videos repeatedly or only Korean books," and added, "At home, English! Outside, freely. We still don't know if she will really immigrate, and if she does, that will be a matter to consider then."
Jang also mentioned having opportunities to evangelize to inmates and prison officers during her incarceration. She said, "I pray and watch for opportunities from my place. I am very grateful as the joy and emotion of spreading the gospel gradually resonate with me," and "In these times when meeting evangelism targets is difficult, I am thankful that God is giving me so many opportunities."
On the afternoon of the 14th of last month, during the sentencing hearing for the adoptive parents accused of abusing and causing the death of their 16-month-old adopted daughter, Jeong-in, citizens gathered at the entrance of the Seoul Southern District Court in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, holding signs in protest toward the transport vehicle believed to be carrying the adoptive mother. I pray they have a significant impact on the verdict," adding, "Our father and mother-in-law are the best in-laws. I am grateful for allowing such a wonderful son and for taking care of our granddaughter."
At the sentencing hearing held on the 14th of last month, the prosecution demanded the death penalty for the adoptive mother Jang and 7 years and 6 months imprisonment for the adoptive father Ahn. Jang was detained on charges including murder, habitual child abuse, abandonment, and neglect under the Child Welfare Act, while Ahn is on trial without detention for child abandonment, neglect, and abuse charges.
