Genesis Surpasses 500,000 Units Sold... Launches Offensive in China and Europe
Approaching 100,000 Units Sold in the US
Announcing Entry into China and Europe Markets This Year... "Providing New Purchase and Brand Experience"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group's premium brand, has surpassed 500,000 units in global cumulative sales. Genesis plans to fully launch its strategy to target the Chinese and European markets, which it declared entry into this year.
As of the 9th, Genesis announced on the 12th that it has sold a total of 500,191 units globally, including 378,999 units domestically and 121,192 units overseas. This achievement was reached just five and a half years after its launch as Korea's first luxury car brand.
Genesis entered the market in November 2015 with the launch of the G90 (then known domestically as EQ900), selling 530 units in its first year and 65,586 units in 2016. From 2017, it continued its growth by selling an average of around 80,000 units annually for three consecutive years.
Notably, last year marked the first time the brand surpassed the 100,000-unit sales milestone. Thanks to strong sales of the GV80, the brand's first sports utility vehicle (SUV), Genesis sold 128,365 units last year, a 46% increase compared to the previous year.
Jang Jae-hoon, President of the Genesis brand, stated, "Genesis has continuously strived for qualitative and quantitative growth in the global market by establishing a unique design identity and providing excellent quality and authentic brand experiences. We will continue to repay our customers' support with products and services that exceed their expectations."
Best-selling model is the G80... Approaching 100,000 units with positive reviews in the U.S. market
By model, the flagship sedan G80 led the brand's quantitative growth with 256,025 units sold. The GV80 also played a leading role in the Genesis brand, selling 38,069 units globally last year and 18,442 units this year.
By market, the U.S. was the largest overseas market. Since starting sales in the U.S. in 2016, cumulative sales have reached 97,869 units, nearing the 100,000-unit milestone.
Since its launch, Genesis has also achieved qualitative growth, receiving favorable reviews from overseas automotive experts. From 2017, it ranked first among luxury car brands for four consecutive years in the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study in the U.S., and in February last year, it ranked first among all brands in the Durability Quality Study.
Additionally, Genesis has proven its safety by earning the 'Top Safety Pick Plus' rating, awarded to the safest vehicles, every year since 2016 in the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests.
Declaration of entry into China and Europe... Launching market strategies
Following the U.S. market, Genesis launched its brand in Canada, the Middle East, Russia, and Australia, and this year declared full-scale entry into China and Europe, two of the world's top three luxury car markets, alongside the U.S.
In April, Genesis held an event in Shanghai, China, to announce the brand launch and unveiled the electrified G80 model. On the 4th, it declared its entry into Europe in Frankfurt, Germany, announcing that sales will begin this summer starting with Germany, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.
